Former Raj CM Gehlot: AAP’s Defeat in Delhi Not Congress’s Fault; Kejriwal’s Party Harmed Congress in Various States

Published

on

Senior Congress leader and former Chief Minister of Rajasthan, Ashok Gehlot, has dismissed claims made by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders, who allege that Congress was responsible for the party’s electoral defeat in the recent Delhi assembly elections. “This is a completely baseless assertion by AAP leadership,” Gehlot expressed on his X handle on Wednesday.

He went on to say that AAP had actually harmed Congress’ electoral prospects in several states, including Gujarat, Goa, and Uttarakhand, where AAP lacked both a support base and political clout. “The political climate in these states was favorable for Congress, especially with the BJP in a weakened position. However, AAP entered these contests without any realistic chance of winning, merely to split the pro-Congress vote, ultimately benefiting the BJP,” noted the three-time former Chief Minister.

Gehlot also supported the decision of the Congress Delhi unit to participate in the recent assembly elections independently, without forming any pre-election alliances with other partners in the INDI bloc. He expressed hope that Congress would re-establish itself as the principal opposition party in the Delhi assembly in the near future. He added that AAP has completely lost the trust and confidence of the people in Delhi-NCR.
