Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman Reaches Parliament to Present Union Budget 2026
New Delhi: Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is set to present the Union Budget 2026 in Parliament today. This will be her ninth consecutive budget, marking a record in India’s parliamentary history.
The budget is scheduled to be presented at 11 a.m. after receiving approval from the Union Cabinet. Notably, this is the first time the Union Budget is being presented on a Sunday.
Ahead of the presentation, Sitharaman arrived at the Finance Ministry and later proceeded to Parliament with the budget documents on a tablet. The move continues the government’s shift toward digital documentation.
According to the Economic Survey tabled earlier in Parliament, India’s economy is projected to grow 7.4 percent in FY26, reaffirming the country’s status as one of the fastest-growing major economies. The survey also estimates growth between 6.8 percent and 7.2 percent in FY27, supported by reforms, macroeconomic stability, and strong domestic demand despite global uncertainties.

SIR Being Used to Disqualify Genuine Voters, Alleges Ivan D’Souza
Udupi: MLC and KPCC Vice-President Ivan D’Souza has alleged that the BJP-led Central government is using the Election Commission as a political tool to remove genuine voters from electoral rolls under the pretext of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR).
Addressing a press conference at the Udupi Congress Bhavan on Tuesday, D’Souza accused the government of attempting to take away the voting rights of genuine voters with the aim of gaining electoral advantage.
He alleged that BLOs and other officials were being pressured to remove the names of eligible voters from the electoral rolls. He claimed that pressure was particularly being applied to exclude voters belonging to minority communities, Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and other weaker sections.
D’Souza further alleged that Form 7 was being misused to challenge the names of eligible voters and make them ineligible to vote.
He criticised the BJP for allegedly turning a constitutional institution like the Election Commission into a political weapon. He said the Congress would oppose any move that affects the voting rights of genuine citizens.
