Mangaluru: The prestigious Namma Kudla Best Buffalo Award was presented to Iruvail Panila’s ‘Taate’ and Bolada Guttu’s ‘Doni’ at the Namma Kambala Awards 2026 ceremony held in Mangaluru on Tuesday.

The two buffaloes have created several records in the traditional Kambala sport. They also have a large fan following among Kambala enthusiasts.

The award ceremony was organised by Namma Kudla Channel, Namma Kambala Team Dubai and Palemar Group. The event was held at Palemar Convention Centre in Maryhill, Konchady, Mangaluru.

The award ceremony began by honouring the owners of ‘Taate’ and ‘Doni’. The buffaloes were recognised for their outstanding achievements in Kambala.

Moolki Seeme Arasu Kambala’s Dugganna Savanta Arasu, MP and Mangaluru Kambala Committee president Brijesh Chowta, former ministers B. Ramanath Rai and Krishna J. Palemar, Kambala Academy founder Prof. Gunapala Kadamba, Kambala organiser and buffalo owner Muniyalu Uday Kumar Shetty, and Kudroli Sri Gokarnanath Temple management committee treasurer Padmaraj R. Poojary were among the chief guests.

Namma Kudla directors Leelaksha B. Karkera, Harish B. Karkera, Suresh B. Karkera, Mohan B. Karkera and Santosh B. Karkera were present. Namma Kudla manager Sudarshan Kotyan was also present.

Rajeev Shetty Yadtur introduced the two award-winning buffaloes and their owners. Namma Kudla COO Kadri Navaneeth Shetty compered the programme.

Namma Kambala Book Released

The Namma Kambala Awards 2026 ceremony was inaugurated with the traditional lighting of the lamp.

The event was chaired by former minister, Land Links founder and entrepreneur Krishna J. Palemar.

The book Namma Kambala was released during the programme. Books on Kambala racing and memorable races were also presented.

Author Nandalike Srikanth Bhat was honoured by Krishna J. Palemar.

Several achievers from the Kambala field were also felicitated. They were honoured with shawls and mementoes for their contributions to the sport.

Well-known Kambala commentator Rajeev Shetty Yadtur introduced the award winners and spoke about their achievements.

Mangaluru: A 33-year-old employee of the Mangaluru District Treasury Office has been missing since August 1.

The missing person has been identified as Rohan M. He is a resident of Nanjamma Layout in Bengaluru.

Rohan had been working as a First Division Assistant at the Mangaluru District Treasury Office for the past two years.

According to his family, Rohan had told them that he was travelling to Gujarat for Guru Purnima.

He later went missing and has not been reachable by phone.

His father, Muniraj Reddy, has filed a missing person complaint at the Kankanady Town Police Station.

Rohan is around 5.6 feet tall and has a dark complexion and a round face. He can speak Kannada, Telugu, Hindi and English.

The police have appealed to the public to provide any information about his whereabouts.

Mangaluru: Madan Ayyappa, a police personnel from Madikeri, has been promoted as an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI).

He has been transferred to the Mangaluru Traffic South Police Station following his promotion.

Madan Ayyappa had been serving at the Mangaluru North Police Station for nearly four years. He had earlier served at the Bunder Police Station.

During his service at the Bunder Police Station, he received support from senior officers, colleagues and the public. He expressed his gratitude to everyone who helped him perform his duties smoothly.

Madan Ayyappa is now taking charge of his new responsibilities as an ASI. His colleagues and members of the public have congratulated him and wished him success in his new role.
