Elderly Man Arrested for Misbehaving with Young Woman on Bus in Moodbidri

Moodbidri : An elderly man has been arrested by moodbidri police after a video showing him misbehaving with a young woman on a private bus went viral on social media. The accused has been identified as 60 – year old  Rehman , a resident of kukkadelu in Belvai village.

According to reports, the incident took place on a crowded private bus, where the young Woman was seen standing due to lack of seating, while the elderly man was seated next to her. The video footage shows the man allegedly behaving in an inappropriate manner towards the woman, prompting outrage online.

Following the video’s circulation, Moodbidri police launched an investigation and apprehended the accused. However, the identity of the victim remains unknown as her face is not clearly visible in the footage, making it difficult for authorities to trace her.

Police have stated that they have not received any official complaint from the woman involved, and as of now, the accused also claims not to know her identity. In an official statement, police have urged the victim or any other individual who may have faced similar misconduct from the accused to come forward and file a complaint at the Moodbidri Police Station.

Authorities have assured that appropriate legal action will be taken under the law once a formal complaint is lodged. They also reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and dignity of all passengers, especially women, while traveling on public transport.

The incident has sparked fresh concerns about the safety of women in public spaces, and police have appealed to citizens to report such behaviour immediately for prompt action.

World Environment Day Celebrated at New Mangalore Port Authority

Mangaluru: New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) celebrated World Environment Day with great enthusiasm on June 5 under the theme, “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Future.”

A plantation drive was organised inside the Port premises. Deputy Chairperson S. Shanthi planted a sapling along with Chief Vigilance Officer Padmanabhachar K. and Senior Environment Officer of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), Rajashekhar Puranik. Officers, employees, and staff members actively participated in the drive.

NMPA highlighted its commitment to environmental protection through various green initiatives. The Port maintains nearly 649 acres of green belt and has implemented measures such as 100% solarisation, rainwater harvesting, sewage treatment, solid waste management, electric vehicles, and shore power facilities.

Speaking at the programme, Rajashekhar Puranik appreciated Mangaluru’s greenery and praised NMPA’s environmental efforts. Deputy Chairperson S. Shanthi stressed the importance of protecting nature and called for collective action to ensure a greener future.

Mangaluru Expert PU College Students Secure Ranks in CET 2026

Mangaluru: The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has announced the results of the Common Entrance Test (CET) 2026. Seven students from Expert Pre-University College, Mangaluru, have secured ranks in different streams.

Six students secured ranks in the B.Sc. Agriculture category, while one student achieved a rank in Yoga and Naturopathy.

In B.Sc. Agriculture, Samay A.S. from the Valachil Campus secured the 3rd rank. Rishika K.S. secured the 4th rank, Ankith Ashok Dodawad secured the 6th rank, Arale Virupakshi secured the 7th rank, and Kruthika Mallikarjun Patil secured the 8th rank.

Rishabh M. Shetty secured the 8th rank in the Veterinary Science category.

MRPL Organises Beach Clean-Up Drive to Mark World Environment Day

Mangaluru: Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited (MRPL), in association with the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB), organised a beach clean-up drive at Idya Beach near Surathkal on Wednesday as part of the World Environment Day 2026 celebrations.

Senior Environmental Officer of KSPCB, Mangaluru, Rajshekhar Puranik attended the programme as the chief guest. Environmental Officer Dr. Manju R. from KSPCB was present as a special invitee.

The clean-up drive was conducted under the leadership of Satish Sadanand, a member of the Surathkal Citizens’ Advisory Committee. Students from Govinda Dasa College, MRPL officials, and local volunteers actively participated in the programme.

More than 150 volunteers joined the beach cleaning activity along with MRPL employees. The participants collected waste from the beach and helped improve the cleanliness of the coastal area.

The programme aimed to create awareness about environmental pollution and its harmful effects on marine life and coastal ecosystems. The organisers highlighted the importance of protecting beaches and preserving the natural environment.

MRPL Group General Manager H.S. Rajeev, Chief General Manager Sreekrishna Pillai, Anil Kumar, General Managers Prasanna Kumar T. and Rajendra Acharya were also present during the event.
