Ed Sheeran Addresses Bengaluru Busking Suspension: “We Had Approval”
On Sunday, Sheeran took to Instagram to share his perspective, stating, “We had permission to busk, by the way. Our performance at this exact spot was planned in advance. It wasn’t a spontaneous decision. All good though. See you at the show tonight x.”
The situation unfolded when Sheeran began to play his popular song “Shape of You.” However, the Bengaluru police intervened before he could complete the performance, citing a lack of proper authorization and disconnecting the equipment.
DCP Central Bengaluru, Shekar T. Tekkannanavar, explained the reasoning behind halting the performance. “Chetan, a member of the organizing team, sought my permission for a concert on Church Street. I declined due to the area’s heavy congestion and the High Court’s orders for evacuations in that region. Therefore, we could not permit Ed Sheeran to perform, which is why he was asked to leave,” he said.
Despite the disruption, Ed Sheeran is focused on his tour in India, with a concert scheduled in Bengaluru on Sunday night, having already performed in Hyderabad and Chennai. During his performance in Chennai, he surprised audiences by collaborating with renowned composer AR Rahman for a unique rendition of “Urvashi.”
Before the concert, Sheeran spent time with Rahman and his son, AR Ameen, who later shared photos of their gathering on Instagram, jokingly captioning them, “Photos by Ed Sheeran.” Following his performance in Bengaluru, the ‘Perfect’ singer will continue his tour in Shillong and Delhi NCR in the upcoming days.

Blue Line Metro Opening Likely to Be Delayed to 2027
Mangluru: The much-awaited Namma Metro Blue Line project is likely to face another delay.
The Blue Line will connect Silk Board with KR Puram and link the busy Outer Ring Road (ORR) with the city’s major IT corridors.
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had earlier planned to start commercial operations by the end of 2026.
However, the opening may now be pushed to early or mid-2027. Several civil and system works are still pending.
The Byappanahalli depot work is one of the major concerns. The depot is important for the operation and maintenance of metro trains.
The work to connect the Blue Line with the depot is yet to be completed.
Construction of metro viaducts is also pending at Marathahalli and the Central Silk Board junctions.
The project has also faced technical challenges at Iblur. These include the presence of a high-pressure GAIL gas pipeline and a Cauvery water supply pipeline.
Land acquisition issues have also affected the construction of the station.
Work at Silk Board has also been delayed. BMRCL received permission for pillar construction from traffic police and civic agencies only after some delay.
BMRCL is trying to begin trial runs between KR Puram and HSR Layout by October 2026.
However, officials have indicated that commercial operations on the Blue Line will not be possible in 2026.
The delay has raised concerns about traffic congestion on the ORR.
The Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) is planning to begin white-topping work on the ORR from October 2026. The project is estimated to cost around Rs.450 crore.
If the road work begins before the Blue Line becomes operational, traffic problems could increase on the busy IT corridor.
Around 8 to 10 lakh employees and other commuters use this corridor every day.

In view of the expected traffic disruption, Minister Krishna Byre Gowda has asked officials to discuss the possibility of allowing companies to provide up to 50 per cent work-from-home facilities for their employees.
The Blue Line is expected to provide major relief to commuters once it becomes fully operational.
