On Saturday, Union Minister, Dr. Jitendra Singh encouraged the youth of Jammu & Kashmir to move away from a government job mentality and explore entrepreneurial opportunities.
During the opening of the two-day “National Startup Festival,” hosted by the CSIR-India Institute of Integrative Medicine at the Government College for Women in Gandhi Nagar, the Minister dedicated this event to the region’s youth. He underscored the significance of innovation, entrepreneurship, and early industry connections in fostering successful startups.
Dr. Jitendra Singh emphasized the vast potential of agriculture-driven startups in Jammu & Kashmir, especially highlighting the Purple Revolution, which has empowered over 3,000 young individuals to earn substantial incomes through lavender-related initiatives.
He urged young individuals to discover their talents and pursue entrepreneurial pathways rather than limiting their ambitions to government employment.
The Minister pointed out that the agri-startup scene in Jammu & Kashmir is thriving, with lavender farming in Bhaderwah, Doda district, positioning the region on the global startup radar.
Dr. Singh called for increased involvement of urban areas in agricultural startups, stressing the need to expand lavender cultivation and other high-value agricultural projects.
With two lakh startups currently operational in India, the country has achieved the third position in the global startup landscape.
The Minister noted that startups are not only driving economic growth but also creating valuable employment avenues, particularly for women and Self-Help Groups (SHGs).
He highlighted the essential role of industry partnerships and market research in ensuring the long-term viability of startups, encouraging budding entrepreneurs to analyze market conditions from the very beginning.
Dr. Jitendra Singh praised the rapid expansion of India’s space economy, crediting its success to the cooperation between public and private sectors.
He also acknowledged the valuable contributions of women-led teams in significant space missions like Chandrayaan-2 and Aditya L1.
In the realm of education, Dr. Jitendra Singh lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which has reformed India’s education landscape by promoting equal opportunities and digital inclusivity.
The Minister urged students to dedicate at least 30 minutes each day to learning about government initiatives and capitalizing on available prospects.
Furthermore, he shared that, following his advice, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been established between AIIMS, IIIM, IIT, IIM, and GMC Jammu for collaborative guidance of postgraduate students in integrated research.
Throughout the festival, Dr. Jitendra Singh visited 45 startup booths, engaging with emerging entrepreneurs and students presenting their innovative ideas.
He commended their contributions to India’s startup ecosystem and encouraged them to keep innovating.
Additionally, while inaugurating a hospital in the border region of Akhnoor, Dr. Jitendra Singh called for enhanced collaboration between private and government hospitals to deliver better quality medical services to the community. He remarked that successful private hospitals result from such synergy.
Dr. Jitendra Singh noted that the government has been promoting collaborative efforts between hospitals and nursing homes from both sectors to provide preventive healthcare to citizens in remote areas.
He stated that the NDA government has established 1.5 lakh wellness centers to bolster the healthcare system across the country.

Dr. Jitendra Singh highlighted that his Parliamentary constituency uniquely hosts three centrally funded medical colleges in Kathua, Udhampur, and Doda.
He remarked that while India was once not taken seriously for curative healthcare, it has now emerged as a global leader in preventive healthcare.

Kerala HC Grants Relief to CM’s Daughter Veena Vijayan by Extending Status Quo in SFIO Case

On Friday, the Kerala High Court extended the status quo for an additional four months regarding the prosecution complaint filed by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) in the Cochin Minerals and Rutile Ltd (CMRL)-Exalogic case, which includes Veena Vijayan, the daughter of Kerala’s Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, among the accused.

This High Court ruling puts a temporary stop to further proceedings in the CMRL pay-off case stemming from the SFIO’s charge sheet. Previously, on April 16, a single bench of the High Court reviewed a petition from CMRL contesting the Additional Sessions Court-VII’s acceptance of the SFIO’s prosecution complaint.

CMRL challenged the order from the Additional District and Sessions Court–VII, arguing that they were not afforded an opportunity for a pre-cognizance hearing as stipulated under Section 223(1) of the BNSS. They contend that since the SFIO’s complaint was filed in March-April 2025, the BNSS provisions should apply.

The High Court’s ruling halts the issuance of summons related to the SFIO’s prosecution complaint, providing temporary relief to the accused, including Veena Vijayan.

BJP Leader Lodges Complaint Against Rapper Vedan for Defaming PM Modi in Song

A BJP councillor from Kerala’s Palakkad municipality has lodged a complaint against rapper and songwriter Vedan, also known as Hirandas Murali, with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The complaint alleges that Vedan insulted Prime Minister Narendra Modi in one of his songs.

In her complaint, Mini Krishnakumar, the BJP councillor, claims that the lyrics of Vedan’s song “Voice of Voiceless,” released four years ago, contain defamatory remarks about the Prime Minister. She further contends that the artist promotes societal division based on caste through his music.

The complaint highlights phrases such as “pseudo-nationalist” and lines that suggest, “The country is in the hands of the one who wields the sword.” Mini alleges that these lyrics are a deliberate affront to the Prime Minister and has called for an investigation by central agencies into the artist’s intent.

She stated, “The artist has made unsubstantiated, disrespectful, and offensive remarks about the Prime Minister, which not only tarnish his personal and political image but also undermine the dignity of India’s highest constitutional office.”

Mini’s complaint follows a wave of criticism directed at Vedan from Sangh Parivar leaders. RN Madhu, editor of Kesari, the RSS mouthpiece, accused Vedan of being backed by powerful sponsors and of promoting caste-based terrorism and separatist ideologies through his music. Additionally, KP Sasikala, a leader of the Hindu Aikya Vedi, criticized Vedan’s attire and expressed the belief that rap music lacks relevance for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe (SC/ST) communities.
