Disney’s Live-Action ‘Snow White’ Remake Set to Stream: What to Anticipate
Leading this new rendition is Rachel Zegler, who gained fame from ‘West Side Story’. She embodies the role of Snow White, injecting youthful charm and vulnerability into the character.
Opposite her is Gal Gadot, trading her superhero persona for the role of the wicked queen. In an interview, Gadot described her character as “evil, magical, and delicious.”
The film remains close to the original tale: a princess fleeing danger, a mysterious forest, and seven quirky companions who step in as her protectors. However, this adaptation introduces a few new twists.
A significant addition is a brand-new male lead, portrayed by Broadway’s Andrew Burnap, which offers a fresh perspective on the traditional storyline.
Behind the camera is Marc Webb, recognized for his work on ‘The Amazing Spider-Man’ and ‘500 Days of Summer’, promising audiences a visually stunning and emotionally engaging experience.
The screenplay is crafted by Greta Gerwig, director of ‘Lady Bird’, alongside Erin Cressida Wilson, known for ‘The Girl on the Train’, merging dark whimsy with modern depth.
No Disney film is complete without music, and this one shines with a soundtrack curated by the Oscar-winning duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the talents behind ‘La La Land’. Their original compositions aim to capture the nostalgic magic of the 1937 animated classic while introducing fresh tunes for today’s audience.
Despite the star-studded cast and creative efforts, ‘Snow White’ experienced a lukewarm reception at the box office, grossing just $43 million in its domestic opening—far from Disney’s usual live-action benchmarks.
However, streaming may breathe new life into the film, particularly among families and fantasy enthusiasts seeking a cozy movie night.
