Director of ‘Kesari Chapter 2’ Defends Ananya Panday Against Criticism

Ananya Panday is no stranger to online trolling and criticism. The actress has faced backlash numerous times, particularly for her performance in the ongoing film “Kesari Chapter 2,” where she portrays Dilreet Gill. While some viewers have praised her acting, a segment of the audience has also expressed their discontent. In response to this, the film’s director, Karan Singh Tyagi, stepped forward to defend the “Call Me Bae” star, highlighting the extensive preparation she undertook for the role.

In an interview with News18, Tyagi addressed the negative feedback surrounding Ananya, urging audiences to acknowledge the positive responses she has received. “The audiences have given her character so much love that I would prefer to focus on the positive aspects. I would like to acknowledge the affection she’s been shown. Just two days ago, during a screening in Hyderabad, I received videos showing the audience cheering during her entry scene. She played a female lawyer in a room full of men, and that speaks volumes against the negative comments,” he remarked.

He further mentioned, “In today’s world, people tend to jump to conclusions. There are numerous clickbait headlines circulating, but as the saying goes, ‘kuch toh log kahenge, logon ka kaam hai kehna’ (people will always talk). We must keep our heads down and continue to work. While I welcome constructive criticism, I also notice a lot of unnecessary hate on social media, which can become quite toxic at times. It’s unfortunate! This is one of the downsides of social media, and we need to find a way to cope with it.”

Additionally, Tyagi emphasized the rigorous preparation Ananya put into her role in this courtroom drama. “I was truly impressed by her performance in Gehraiyaan, which led me to offer her the role of Dilreet Gill. She has truly excelled in Kesari Chapter 2, dedicating herself to the character with immense hard work. She attended dialect classes for over a year and studied the mannerisms of female lawyers. We even visited the Bombay High Court to observe a female lawyer in action.”

Meanwhile, “Kesari Chapter 2” was released in theaters on April 18, featuring Akshay Kumar, R Madhavan, and Ananya Panday, with Karan Singh Tyagi directing. The film is based on the tragic events of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and channels years of simmering anger, drawing inspiration from the book “The Case That Shook The Empire” by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat. In the film, Kumar portrays the courageous lawyer, Sir C Sankaran Nair, who sues the crown for genocide, going head-to-head with the empire’s formidable attorney, Neville McKinley, played by R Madhavan.
