Denise Richards Reveals Hollywood Harassment and Her Disturbing Past Trauma

Published

on

Hollywood actress Denise Richards recently opened up about the harassment she encountered early in her career, revealing she was warned that speaking out could lead to being “blacklisted.” The 54-year-old star, famed for her role in the 1998 thriller ‘Wild Things’, shared her experiences in a candid interview with ‘People’ magazine.

Reflecting on her formative years in the entertainment industry, Richards expressed how the fear of losing opportunities kept her silent. “I was told I would be blacklisted,” she explained. “I felt incredibly vulnerable. This was the career I had always dreamed of, and being told I’d never work again if I spoke up was terrifying.”

Richards’ insights draw a stark comparison between her past and the present, particularly in light of the #MeToo movement. “I’m glad that women today have a louder voice and better protections,” she stated. “If I were to face something like that now, I would approach it differently. But back then, I was young and just starting out.”

Becoming a mother has significantly influenced her perspective. Richards is the mother of three daughters—Sami, 20, Lola, 19, and Eloise, 13—and witnessing their growth has empowered her. “I see my daughters becoming such strong women. If I had that level of support, I think I would have dealt with things differently,” she reflected.

Denise has also been candid about her past traumas, including a frightening road rage incident in November 2022, where a gunman fired shots at a truck driven by her husband, Aaron Phypers. Recalling that harrowing experience, she admitted, “I was so scared. I froze. I literally sat on the floor and lost control.”

During a recent appearance on ‘Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test’, Richards shared another deeply personal story about being sexually assaulted as a teenager. “I was 15 when it first happened to me,” she recounted. “A man followed me, grabbed me from behind, and covered my mouth. I couldn’t even scream for help. I just froze.”

Speaking about her journey towards overcoming fear, she emphasized her commitment to growing from these painful experiences. “I’m determined to learn how to not be overwhelmed by fear. I’ve encountered trauma, and I want to emerge stronger from it.”
