CM Fadnavis Commends ‘Chhaava’: “Sambhaji Maharaj Deserved Better from History”

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended a special screening of ‘Chhaava’ in Mumbai, where he lauded the film for illuminating the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, the second ruler of the Maratha Empire.
After viewing the historical drama, CM Fadnavis praised the filmmakers for highlighting the lesser-known contributions of Sambhaji Maharaj.

“Many people across India are learning more about Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj through ‘Chhaava’. He was not just a courageous warrior, but also a learned scholar fluent in 11 languages, and made significant contributions as a poet and writer. The film truly honors his legacy,” he stated.

The Chief Minister acknowledged that historical accounts have often underestimated Sambhaji Maharaj’s intellect and sacrifices. “History has not always portrayed him accurately. This film underscores his valor, intelligence, and unwavering commitment to Swarajya after Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj,” he added.

Directed by Laxman Utekar, ‘Chhaava’ is inspired by Shivaji Sawant’s celebrated Marathi novel ‘Chhava’. Vicky Kaushal stars as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, with Rashmika Mandanna as Maharani Yesubai. The cast also includes Akshaye Khanna as Aurangzeb, Ashutosh Rana as Sarsenapati Hambirao Mohite, and Diana Penty as Zinat-un-Nissa Begum.
The film’s score is composed by A.R. Rahman, featuring lyrics by Irshad Kamil and Kshitij Patwardhan. Songs like “Jaane Tu” and “Aaya Re Toofan” have already mesmerized audiences in anticipation of the release.
The special screening was attended by numerous political leaders and dignitaries. CM Fadnavis expressed his appreciation for the cast and crew, describing ‘Chhaava’ as a significant tribute to one of Maharashtra’s most revered historical figures.
