Clash Erupts Between Security Forces and Militants in Kupwara, J&K
“As security forces closed in on the hiding terrorists, the militants opened fire, resulting in an ongoing encounter. Two to three terrorists are believed to be barricaded in the enclosed area, and all their potential escape routes have been secured,” officials stated.
A joint operation team from the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and the Special Operations Group (SOG) is actively working to neutralize the threat. The area has been cordoned off, and additional reinforcements have been dispatched to ensure the operation’s success. Civilians in the vicinity are advised to remain indoors and refrain from moving near the encounter site for their safety.
The situation is dynamic and under constant surveillance, according to officials, who will provide further updates as the operation unfolds. Security agencies are expected to release press statements as more information becomes available.
Intelligence assessments indicate an increase in terrorist activities, likely orchestrated by handlers based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). There is a growing belief that the upcoming Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly elections in 2024 have frustrated these terror operatives.
Recently, some terrorists were responsible for the deaths of three innocent civilians in Kathua district, which included a 14-year-old boy. Moreover, the bodies of two out of three civilians who went missing from the Qazigund area of Kulgam district on February 14 have been recovered. These individuals, from Rajouri district in the Jammu division, were laborers striving to make a living in the Valley.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has convened three security review meetings concerning Jammu and Kashmir since the start of 2025. He has issued clear directives to the security forces to achieve zero infiltration and maintain a zero-tolerance stance towards terrorists and their sympathizers in the region.
Additionally, Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha has chaired two consecutive security review meetings, one in Srinagar and another in Jammu. The Lt. Governor has instructed police and security forces to dismantle the entire infrastructure supporting terrorism, including overground workers (OGWs) and sympathizers. He highlighted that funds generated from drug smuggling, trafficking, and hawala operations ultimately support terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that the fight against terror must encompass cutting off all its support channels.
