Controversy Surrounds Hindi Film ‘Chhaava’ Starring Rashmika Mandanna and Vicky Kaushal
The Hindi film Chhaava, starring Rashmika Mandanna and Vicky Kaushal, has sparked controversy following its trailer release. Several Marathi groups and descendants of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj have raised objections to the film, calling for the removal of certain scenes. Protests have also been organized against the film.
Chhaava, which focuses on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s son, Sambhaji Maharaj, will be released on February 14. Following the release of its trailer, the film has come under criticism. Descendants of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj have expressed concerns regarding the historical accuracy and portrayal of events in the film. They have demanded that certain scenes be removed before the release.
Sambhaji Raje Chhatrapati, a member of the Rajya Sabha and a descendant of Shivaji Maharaj, spoke to the media and urged the filmmakers to consult historians for an accurate depiction of Sambhaji Maharaj. He stressed that the film should respect and honor the legacy of the historical figure with precision. While acknowledging that the film’s subject matter is significant, he suggested that any mistakes be rectified before the film’s release.
Several Marathi groups, particularly in Pune and Mumbai, have protested against the film, demanding that its release be halted. One of the contentious scenes in the trailer shows Rashmika Mandanna and Vicky Kaushal performing a dance. This scene, in which they are shown dancing after Sambhaji Maharaj’s coronation, has drawn objections. Critics argue that it is contrary to the royal dignity and character of the historical figure, with many calling for its removal.
Chhaava tells the story of Sambhaji Maharaj and features Rashmika Mandanna as his wife, Maharani Yesubai. Directed by Lakshman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijan, the film features music by A.R. Rahman. The movie is set to release on February 14.
