Chennai Championship: World Table Tennis Star Contender Set to Begin
The World Table Tennis Contender Chennai Championship kicked off with an exciting ceremony as Tamil Nadu’s Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin unveiled the tournament trophy, signaling the start of an action-packed event featuring top paddlers from around the globe vying for victory.

Sharath Kamal, a ten-time national champion and an influential figure in Indian table tennis, is participating in his final tournament before retirement. It is poetic that his journey began in Chennai and culminates in his hometown, at an event showcasing elite athletes, reflecting his remarkable demeanor and dedicated performance throughout his extensive career.

In a vibrant and rapid opening ceremony that kicked off a week of high-caliber table tennis, the TN Deputy Chief Minister shared encouragement to the players through his quiet presence and warm smile before departing to let the matches commence. The venue, Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, was aglow with celebratory fireworks, bidding a fitting farewell to a domestic star.
This global event is supported by a dedicated team of officials who are implementing practical sports policies bolstering the state’s sports culture and achievements. Tamil Nadu has recently emerged as a significant hub for table tennis in India, cultivating a wealth of talented players. Key figures in this success include Atulya Misra, the Additional Chief Secretary and head of Youth Welfare and Sports Development, and J. Meghanatha Reddy, Member Secretary of the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, both present at the inaugural ceremony.
The tournament has drawn 158 players from around the world, including Olympic medalists and some of the sport’s most celebrated names.
Leading the charge internationally are Japanese stars Tomokazu Harimoto (#3, MS) and Hina Hayata (#5, WS), both Olympic medalists and top seeds in their respective singles events. They will be accompanied by a formidable group of medalists including Miwa Harimoto (#6, WS), Shin Yu-bin (#10, WS), Cheng I-Ching (#11, WS), Doo Hoi Kem (#36, WS), Lee Eun-hye (#39, WS), and Lim Jong-hoon (#43, MS).
In a historic first, an Indian men’s doubles team is seeded first in a WTT Star Contender event. Manush Shah and Manav Thakkar, fresh from a semifinal performance at WTT Star Contender Doha 2025, will aim to leverage their home advantage. Meanwhile, in mixed doubles, Diya Chitale and Manush Shah, seeded fourth, are eager to make a significant impact.
A record-setting 19 Indian athletes have received direct entries and wildcards into the main draw, marking the highest representation for the country at this level. Overall, 82 Indian players (35 men and 47 women) are set to compete across singles, doubles, and mixed doubles, establishing a new benchmark in India’s international table tennis participation.
The opening day featured qualifying rounds.

Chinese Man Sets World Record by Running 100 Km Daily for 100 Days
World: A Chinese ultramarathon runner has achieved a remarkable world record by running 100 kilometres every day for 100 consecutive days.
The runner, Huang Zhenglong, is also known as Long Shao. He completed a total distance of 10,000 kilometres during this challenge.
According to Guinness World Records, the feat took place between December 6 and March 15. He successfully finished the challenge in Foshan, Guangdong.
Huang was warmly welcomed and celebrated after completing this extraordinary achievement. Many people praised his dedication and strong will.
He had been preparing for such endurance challenges for a long time. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he closed his business to focus fully on running.
Earlier, he had also run across China for 365 days without a break. This experience helped him take up even tougher challenges.
At the beginning, many people doubted his ability to complete this task. Running 100 kilometres daily is equal to running more than two marathons every day.
Despite the doubts, Huang stayed consistent and disciplined. He started his run every morning at 7 am along the Desheng River.
He also shared his journey online, which inspired many people. His determination impressed runners and fans around the world.

Huang said that receiving recognition from Guinness World Records made him very happy. He added that many people believed this challenge was impossible.
His achievement proves that strong determination and hard work can make the impossible possible.

Shresta Iyer Faces Hate After IPL Video
IPL 2026 : The IPL 2026 match between Punjab Kings and Kolkata Knight Riders was washed out due to rain.
The match result gave both teams one point each. Shreyas Iyer’s sister, Shresta Iyer, shared a fun video on Instagram after the game.
She joked that Punjab had given one point to KKR. Some people did not like the video and sent her hateful messages online.
Shresta later posted another video to respond to the hate. She said her video was only for fun and not meant to insult anyone.
She asked people to take the game in a positive spirit. She also said there should be no hate, only love in sports.

RCB’s 19th Over Blitz Seals Big Win Over CSK
Sports: At the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Chennai Super Kings in an exciting high-scoring match.
RCB looked steady at first but exploded in the final overs. Tim David and Rajat Patidar changed the game with powerful hitting. The 19th over became the turning point as RCB scored 30 runs and set a huge target.
RCB smashed 19 sixes and 14 boundaries, with most runs coming from big shots. Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal also played key roles.
