BTS’ Jimin Surpasses PSY’s ‘Gangnam Style’ Billboard Record with ‘Who’
On March 11, Billboard announced that Jimin’s solo track ‘Who’ has impressively remained on the Hot 100 for 32 consecutive weeks, ranking at No. 41 for the week ending March 15. The Billboard Hot 100 is a weekly chart that ranks the most popular songs in the United States. With this impressive feat, ‘Who’ has set the record for the longest-charting song by a K-pop solo artist on the Hot 100, breaking PSY’s previous record of 31 weeks held by his 2012 hit ‘Gangnam Style.’ Nearly a decade later, Jimin has made history.
Furthermore, ‘Who’ is now tied with BTS’s ’Dynamite’ as the longest-charting song by a K-pop act in Hot 100 history. Meanwhile, Jimin’s solo album ‘MUSE’ has also solidified its reputation as the longest-charting K-pop solo album on the Billboard 200, currently sitting at No. 154 in its 33rd week on the chart.
In addition, ‘MUSE’ has registered its seventh non-consecutive week at No. 1 on Billboard’s World Albums chart. At the same time, ‘Who’ has maintained strong positions on various charts, placing at No. 23 on the Global Excl. U.S. chart, No. 24 on the Global 200, and No. 26 on the Streaming Songs chart in its 33rd week.
Last month, Jimin achieved the BRTI Gold certification for ‘Who’ in the U.K. The British Phonographic Industry (BPI) announced that Jimin’s hit single has officially received the coveted BRIT gold certification, marking his first song to achieve this recognition. According to BPI’s certification criteria, singles are certified gold upon selling 400,000 units, while albums reach gold status at 100,000 units sold. ‘Who’ is now the first song by a K-pop male soloist to earn gold certification in the United Kingdom since PSY’s legendary track ‘Gangnam Style.’
