BJP to Select Delhi CM in Today’s Legislature Party Meeting, Swearing-In Scheduled for Tomorrow at Noon

Published

on

As anticipation builds regarding Delhi’s next Chief Minister, a vital meeting of the BJP’s Legislature Party is set for Wednesday evening, where party MLAs will select their leader. Initially scheduled for February 17, the meeting was postponed, causing a delay in the announcement of the new Chief Minister.

The gathering will take place at the Delhi BJP’s office on Pandit Pant Marg in Lutyens Delhi, and all 48 MLAs have been instructed to arrive promptly at 6 PM. During the meeting, observers will gather feedback from the MLAs, leading to the official announcement of the new CM.
Several candidates are being considered for the CM position, including Parvesh Verma, Satish Upadhyay, and Ramesh Bidhuri. There are also rumors circulating that the BJP may consider appointing a woman chief minister. Ultimately, the final decision will rest with the central leadership, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The swearing-in ceremony for the BJP, which is poised to regain power in the national capital after a 27-year hiatus, will take place at Ramlila Maidan at 12 noon on Thursday.

While preparations for the swearing-in are underway, the party has yet to announce who will lead as Chief Minister of Delhi.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has criticized the BJP for the delay in naming the Chief Minister. AAP leader and caretaker CM Atishi asserted that the BJP lacks a candidate for the position, thus explaining the repeated postponements of their legislative party meetings.

“Even after 11 days of the election results, the BJP does not have a chief ministerial candidate. This is why the legislative party meeting is being postponed again and again. It is very clear that Modi ji does not trust any of his 48 MLAs,” Atishi commented in a post on X.

In the recent Assembly elections, the BJP secured 48 out of 70 assembly seats, while the ruling AAP’s representation dropped to just 22. The Congress party continues to struggle, failing to secure any seats for the third consecutive term.
