The unseeded Indian duo of Siddhant Banthia and Parikshit Somani triumphed over Nicolas Mejia and Bernard Tomic with a score of 7-5, 6-0, securing their place in the semifinals of the Bengaluru Open doubles tournament on Thursday. They will now face Australia’s Blake Bayldon and Matthew Christopher Romios for a chance to compete in the final.

The Bengaluru Open, organized by the Karnataka State Lawn Tennis Association (KSLTA), is an ATP Challenger 125 event featuring a total prize fund of USD 200,000. It is currently regarded as India’s largest international tennis tournament. The victor of this hard-court competition will earn 125 valuable ATP ranking points. The first set on Court 1 at the KSLTA Tennis Stadium was tightly contested, with both the Banthia/Somani and Mejia/Tomic teams battling for control. The Indian pair managed to save a critical break point before taking the lead with a break in the 12th game after winning games nine and 11 on their serve.

Carrying their momentum into the second set, Banthia and Somani delivered a decisive performance, winning the set 6-0 in just 20 minutes.

Earlier, Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni moved closer to defending their title with a solid 6-3, 6-3 victory against Hynek Barton and Eric Vanshelboim. The reigning champions gained an early break in the first set and continued to establish a strong lead, securing additional breaks in games five and nine of the second set to clinch the win.

As the tournament’s most successful doubles team, Ramkumar and Myneni will face either Anirudh Chandrasekar/Ray Ho or SD Prajwal Dev/Aryan Shah for a spot in the final.

Joining the two Indian pairs in the semifinals were second-seeded Bayldon and Romios, who set the tone early by breaking India’s Adil Kalyanpur and Karan Singh in the opening game.

In the second set, the Australian duo held off a challenge, breaking their opponents in game seven and saving two critical break points in game eight to secure a 6-2, 6-4 victory.

In singles action, Hynek Barton continued his impressive run, following up his stunning upset of top seed Vit Kopriva with a 7-6(5), 6-3 win over Denmark’s August Holmgren, advancing to the quarterfinals.

Meanwhile, third seed Brandon Holt recovered from a set down to defeat former World No. 17 Bernard Tomic in a hard-fought battle, winning 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 to reach the last eight. In another singles match, seventh seed Shintaro Mochizuki overcame Jay Clarke with scores of 5-7, 6-1, 6-2.

Departing Goodison Park is bittersweet, but Everton is heading towards a brighter future, claims Moyes.

Everton’s head coach, David Moyes, reflected on the significant moment in the club’s history as they prepare to play their final match at Goodison Park this Sunday. The Toffees will face already-relegated Southampton in what is expected to be an emotional farewell for fans, as the Men’s Senior Team gears up to transition to their new world-class waterfront stadium for the 2025/26 season.

Everton’s journey began at Anfield, now home to city rivals Liverpool. A rental dispute led to their move to Goodison Park in 1892, where they have spent the last 133 years.

Moyes noted the many legends who have passed through the club, emphasizing that he will be the one to close the door behind him. “There are many individuals with greater knowledge and wisdom about Everton and Goodison Park than I possess. The history, the stories, the great managers, and players—all of that is rich here. I’m simply the one who will close the door as I leave,” he remarked.

Moyes expressed the bittersweet nature of the transition: “It will be sad, but we are moving towards a brighter and better future. I believe all Evertonians have eagerly awaited this moment. The new stadium is much anticipated. While it will be an emotional day, I need to keep the players focused on the match,” he stated during the pre-game press conference.

He also confirmed that Seamus Coleman will remain with Everton next season, regardless of the circumstances, and revealed that Jake O’Brien is fit and available for the club’s last Premier League match at Goodison Park. O’Brien is back after missing the recent win against Fulham due to injury, while James Tarkowski (hamstring), Jesper Lindstrom (hernia), and Orel Mangala (knee) will miss the final home game of the season.

Addressing the possibility of Coleman captaining the team for Goodison’s last Premier League match, Moyes commented, “That is something I’m considering. What I can say is that Sunday’s game is a priority for us, and we’ll do our utmost to prepare effectively and perform at our best.”

“Seamus will definitely be with us next season. His presence is vital; his leadership and influence in the dressing room are immensely strong, and it would be wrong to lose him. Seamus will be here, one way or another,” he confirmed.
