Benedict Cumberbatch and Olivia Colman to Co-Star in ‘The Roses’

Benedict Cumberbatch, known for his role in ‘Sherlock,’ and Olivia Colman from ‘The Crown’ are set to star in the upcoming remake of ‘War of the Roses,’ titled ‘The Roses.’ Directed by Jay Roach, the screenplay is penned by McNamara, the writer behind ‘Poor Things.’ This film reimagines Danny DeVito’s dark comedy from 1989, which was itself based on Warren Adler’s novel of the same name published in 1981. Fans can look forward to its premiere on August 29.

The official synopsis teases: “On the surface, Ivy (Olivia Colman) and Theo (Benedict Cumberbatch) appear to be the perfect couple with successful careers, a loving marriage, and wonderful children. However, beneath this seemingly idyllic life, trouble brews: as Theo’s career falters, Ivy’s ambitions soar, leading to a dangerous mix of rivalry and buried resentment.”

Joining Cumberbatch and Colman in this highly anticipated film are Andy Samberg and Allison Janney, along with a talented cast that includes Ncuti Gatwa, Jamie Demetriou, Zoë Chao, Belinda Bromilow, and Kate McKinnon. The production team consists of Roach, Michelle Graham, Ed Sinclair, Tom Carver, and Cumberbatch through his company SunnyMarch, along with Adam Ackland and Leah Clarke.

The narrative centers on a couple facing challenges as their professional lives diverge, offering a deep dive into the complexities of marriage and the obstacles they face.
