BCCI Unveils New SOPs in Preparation for IPL 2025
In preparation for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) season, the BCCI has introduced new regulations that restrict the presence of family members in the Player and Match Officials Areas (PMOA) before and during matches. Additionally, players are now required to travel exclusively by team bus, a directive already enforced for national team players during international competitions.
As reported by Cricbuzz, these new guidelines were communicated to IPL franchises via a BCCI memo. The memo also instructed host venues to facilitate the use of their facilities for local games, legends leagues, and celebrity tournaments. Under these updated rules, teams will be limited to a maximum of seven practice sessions and only two warm-up matches will be allowed.

The report indicated that these measures were implemented to prevent strain on venues due to domestic matches occurring just before the IPL season. The new season is set to kick off on March 22 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, where defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders will face off against Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

The updated policy concerning family members of players and support staff prohibits their entry into the dressing room even on practice days, and they are not permitted on match days either.
According to the report, “On practice days (both pre-tournament and during the tournament), access to the dressing room and the field of play is restricted to accredited staff only. Family members and friends of players may observe practices from the hospitality area in separate vehicles. Any extended support staff such as throw-down specialists and net bowlers must have their names submitted to the BCCI for pre-approval to receive non-match day accreditations.”
The BCCI has also reiterated that players must utilize the designated team bus rather than personal vehicles for transportation to practice sessions. “Players are required to arrive for practice on the team bus. Teams may travel in two separate batches,” states the new directive.
Moreover, the BCCI has established additional protocols concerning player behavior and on-field practices for the IPL 2025 season. Notably, fitness assessments are now prohibited on the main pitch during match days, a shift from the previous norm where physiotherapists would evaluate player fitness on the central track just before matches began.
To further maintain professionalism, players are mandated to wear the Orange and Purple caps for a minimum of two overs during games and avoid sleeveless jerseys during post-match presentations.
