Bantwal: Parents Protest against Transfer of Head Teacher at Devasya Moodoor School

Bantwal: Parents of students studying at the Government Higher Primary School in Devasya Moodoor, located in Maninalkuru village of Bantwal taluk, staged a protest on Monday opposing the sudden transfer of the school’s head teacher. The protest was held on the school premises, with parents choosing not to send their children to class as a mark of dissent.

According to sources, the transfer was initiated under the grounds of the head teacher being considered an “additional teacher.” Among the total four teachers at the school, one had already been deputed to another institution, leaving the school with only three educators for 95 students.

Parents argued that transferring the head teacher without any prior consultation would adversely affect the academic progress and overall development of the school. They expressed strong dissatisfaction with the government’s decision, claiming it was unfair and detrimental to the children’s education.

The protest gained attention due to the school’s recent initiatives for development. Last year, the School Development and Monitoring Committee (SDMC), led by president Vasanth Mudimar, had drawn public interest by raising funds through a creative campaign that involved dressing up in a tiger costume (Sharadoola vesha).

Former Zilla Panchayat member M. Tungappa Bangera visited the protest site and listened to the concerns of the parents. He also held discussions with Nonnayya, the acting Block Education Officer (BEO) of Bantwal. According to the BEO, the transfer was made based on departmental instructions, considering the Kannada language teacher as surplus.

Bangera then contacted the District Deputy Director of Public Instruction (DDPI) via phone and brought the matter to their attention. Following this assurance of further review and a request to end the protest, the parents agreed to withdraw their demonstration and submitted a formal appeal to the education authorities.

Present at the site were SDMC president Vasanth Mudimar, members Ramakrishna Maiya, Sudarshan Baj, Monappa Poojary, several local leaders, and parents. CRP Ravi and Pushparaj from the Block Education Office also visited the school for further inspection.

Bantwal: A tense situation arose in the Narikombu Gram Panchayat limits after residents accused the Panchayat of dumping garbage by the roadside at Koppalakodi. The incident occurred when waste collected from Nehru Nagar was allegedly transported and dumped near a public road in Koppalakodi.

According to locals, the garbage was brought in a Panchayat waste disposal vehicle and dumped in an area surrounded by houses and a Shishu Mandir school. Angered by this act, residents gathered at the spot and strongly protested against the Panchayat officials.

Villagers immediately informed the Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) about the issue and demanded that the garbage be removed. They also insisted that the waste be taken back and dumped at its original location.
