Avani Scores 65 to Secure Tied-13th Finish in Australia

Published

on

Avani Prashanth delivered an impressive performance in the final round of the Australian Women’s Classic, shooting a remarkable 5-under 65. This achievement secured her a strong Top-15 finish in her first season on the Ladies European Tour. Following earlier rounds of 72 and 70, she concluded the tournament with a total score of 3-under 207, placing her six shots behind the champion, Manon De Roey, who clinched the title with a birdie on the final hole to edge out Cara Gainer.

Pranavi Urs, the other Indian player to make the cut, shot a 72 and finished tied for 65th place, while Diksha Dagar did not make the cut. Avani began her round on the 10th hole, recording birdies on the 10th, 12th, 14th, 17th, and 18th. She added another birdie on the 2nd hole, reaching 6-under and eyeing a potential Top-10 finish. However, she dropped shots on the 3rd and 5th holes but managed to secure another birdie at the 7th.

Reflecting on her final round, Avani, who previously finished in the Top-10 at the Indian Open as an amateur, expressed her satisfaction. “It was a great final day. I’ve struggled with reading the greens the past couple of days, but I figured it out today, so it was very good. I sank a short putt on the first hole, and from there, I made several long putts,” she said.

“I didn’t have too many close approaches. Of the seven birdies I made, only two were within eight feet, while the rest were from around 15-25 feet. That’s necessary to score low here, especially with the hard greens and windy conditions. I’m glad I got it together and am looking forward to next week.”

Manon De Roey, the tournament winner, celebrated her third victory on the Ladies European Tour (LET) and ascended to second place in the 2025 Order of Merit. She delivered a crucial birdie at the 18th hole, marking her as a three-time LET champion.

Despite a tense final day, the Belgian golfer maintained her composure, executing an excellent approach to seven feet on the par-4 18th hole before sinking the putt for her third LET victory.

Gainer finished in solo second place at eight-under par thanks to her strong finish, while the promising talent Wongras secured third at seven-under. Sweden’s Kajsa Arwefjall shot a 66 (-4) to tie for fourth with Kemp at six-under par. This was Kemp’s return to competitive play after breaking her leg seven months ago—a remarkable comeback story.

The LET will continue its co-sanctioned tour in Australia, with the WPGA Tour heading to Wollongong for the Ford NSW Women’s Open next.
