on

Matthew Kuhnemann, the Australian spinner, has been flagged for a potentially illegal bowling action during the second Test match against Sri Lanka in Galle.

This is the first instance in which Kuhnemann’s action has been questioned, and the left-arm bowler will undergo further evaluation to determine if his bowling technique complies with regulations.

Should the investigation conclude that Kuhnemann’s action is indeed illegal, he will be prohibited from bowling internationally until adjustments are made to his technique and a successful reassessment is conducted.

Throughout the two-match Test series in Sri Lanka, Kuhnemann emerged as the top wicket-taker, securing 16 wickets with an impressive average of 17.18.

Cricket Australia issued a statement on Wednesday affirming that Kuhnemann has been cited.

“The Australian team was informed of the match officials’ referral after the second Test against Sri Lanka in Galle, and we will support Matt during this review process,” the statement explained.

“Since his debut in 2017, Matt has participated in 124 professional matches, including five Test matches and four one-day internationals, in addition to playing 55 games in the Big Bash League since 2018. This marks the first time in his eight-year professional career that concerns have been raised about his bowling action.”

“Cricket Australia will work closely with the ICC and relevant independent experts in accordance with ICC regulations. There will be no further comments from Cricket Australia or Matt until this issue is resolved,” the statement concluded.
