Atishi Criticizes Delhi Budget as ‘Hawa Hawai,’ Dismissing It as Groundless
During a press conference, Atishi encapsulated her views by declaring, “If I were to describe this budget in one phrase, it would be a ‘hawa-hawai budget.’”
“This so-called ₹1 lakh crore budget lacks any economic backing. It was evident as soon as Chief Minister Rekha Gupta presented it in the Assembly why the BJP chose to withhold the Economic Survey,” she remarked.
Questioning the authenticity of the budget figures, Atishi stated, “If this ₹1 lakh crore budget were truly grounded in genuine revenue generation, the government would have included the Economic Survey. They chose not to because it would have exposed their ‘hawa-hawai’ budget as based on inflated figures and unrealistic assumptions.”
She also condemned the budget’s reduction in education funding, pointing out that for the first time in ten years, allocations for education are at their lowest. “Under the AAP government, education previously received nearly a quarter of the budget. However, this year, for the first time in a decade, funding for education has dipped below 20 percent,” she highlighted.
Atishi further accused the BJP of undermining sanitation services in Delhi. “In an unprecedented move, the budget allocation for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has been slashed—from ₹8,423 crore in 2024-25 to ₹6,897 crore this year—representing a shocking reduction of ₹1,526 crore. This is the first time that the MCD’s budget has decreased from one year to the next. This clearly reflects the BJP’s aim: to dismantle education, destroy healthcare, and now, devastate sanitation services in Delhi,” she asserted.
