Artemis II Astronauts Face Toilet Issue Midway to Moon Mission
Houston: The astronauts aboard Artemis II are now more than halfway to the Moon. They are preparing for a historic fly-around of the lunar surface. However, they are facing a problem with their onboard toilet.
The four-member crew includes three Americans and one Canadian. They are expected to reach the Moon on Monday. During the mission, they will capture images of the Moon’s far side. This is the first crewed lunar mission in more than 50 years after Apollo program.
Pilot Victor Glover said that the Earth now looks very small from space. He added that the Moon is getting bigger as they move closer.
The toilet inside the Orion capsule is not working properly. Mission Control has asked the astronauts to use backup urine collection bags. The toilet has been malfunctioning since the launch.
Engineers believe that ice may be blocking the system. This is stopping the urine from flushing properly. The toilet can still be used for solid waste.
NASA official Debbie Korth said the astronauts also reported a bad smell from the bathroom. The toilet is located in the floor of the capsule and has a curtain for privacy.
Another NASA official, John Honeycutt, said the astronauts are safe. He added that they are trained to handle such problems.

The mission is expected to set a new distance record for humans in space. It will travel about 400,000 kilometers from Earth. The current record is held by Apollo 13.
Astronaut Jeremy Hansen said he has already seen amazing views from space. The crew also includes Reid Wiseman and Christina Koch.
This mission is important for future space exploration. It is a step toward building a long-term base on the Moon. NASA plans to land astronauts near the Moon’s south pole by 2028.
