Argument over change at medical shop; Customer assaults staff member

Udupi: A dispute over change money at a medical shop led to a customer assaulting a female staff member in an incident that occurred at Mavinakatte in Kundapur taluk of Udupi district.

The accused has been identified as a customer named Yasmin, while the assaulted staff member is a young woman named Lakshmi. The altercation reportedly began when Yasmin handed over a ₹500 note to buy medicine at the shop. Lakshmi informed her that she didn’t have change and suggested making the payment via PhonePe . However, Yasmin insisted on getting change from another store and, in a sudden act, slapped Lakshmi on her cheek, according to the allegations.

Lakshmi has filed a complaint with the police, stating that Yasmin not only verbally abused her but also physically assaulted her. A case has been registered at the Kundapur Rural Police Station. The incident, including video and audio, has been captured on the shop’s CCTV system.

The assault on the Dalit woman has sparked widespread outrage on social media. Lakshmi has been admitted to the Kundapur Taluk Hospital for treatment. A case has been registered against Yasmin under charges of caste-based abuse, Dalit atrocity, and physical assault.

Udupi SP Hariram Shankar visited the hospital, inquired about Lakshmi’s health, and assured appropriate action against the accused. The DySP is currently investigating the case.

19-Year-Old Youth Dies After Bus–Bike Accident in Udupi

Udupi: A 19-year-old youth who was seriously injured in a road accident has died after a week of treatment in a hospital.

The accident took place last week on the Laxminagar Road in Santekatte, Udupi. It involved a government bus and a motorcycle.

The deceased has been identified as Mohammed Zhad (19), a resident of Shettibettu in Hergga.

After the accident, he was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Udupi for treatment. However, he did not respond to treatment and passed away yesterday.

Mohammed Zhad had recently completed his PUC education. He was preparing to travel to a Gulf country for a job in the near future.

His sudden death has caused deep grief to his family and relatives. He is survived by his parents and one brother.

Fishermen Leader Stabbed During Settlement Meeting in Udupi

Udupi: A stabbing incident involving a Hindu organization leader was reported in Malpe, Udupi district, on Tuesday night.

Manju Kola, a leader of a Hindu organization in Udupi city, was allegedly stabbed by two youths near Malpe beach. He was immediately shifted to a private hospital in Udupi for treatment. According to sources, he suffered injuries to his stomach and collapsed at the spot before being taken to the hospital.

Manju Kola is also the husband of Lakshmi Manjunath, former Vice President of the Udupi City Municipal Council, and a leader of the Hindu Yuva Sene. Reports said that he had called a meeting near the beach to settle a dispute related to a love affair between a young couple. During the discussion, an argument broke out, and one of the youths allegedly attacked him with a knife.

The Malpe police have arrested five accused in connection with the case. The arrested persons have been identified as Pragnesh, Puneeth, Amruth, Abhijith, and another individual, all residents of Palimaru.

Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar said that the attack appears to have been carried out due to personal reasons. Further investigation is underway.

Kundapur Rural Police Inspector Dies of Heart Attack During Marathon

Udupi: Kundapur Rural Police Inspector Nasir Hussain died of a heart attack during a marathon event held on Sunday morning.

The marathon was organised under the theme “Our Police, Our Pride” and “Fitness for All” as part of the “Drug Free Karnataka” campaign.

Nasir Hussain, who was serving as the Inspector of Kundapur Rural Police Station, participated in the run along with other police personnel and members of the public.

During the event, he suddenly collapsed. He was immediately rushed for medical assistance. However, doctors declared him dead due to a heart attack.

The incident has shocked the police department and the local community.
