Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah attended the inaugural Samadhi Smriti Mahotsav in honor of Shri Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj in Rajnandgaon, Chhattisgarh. He also took part in the Shri 1008 Siddhachakra Vidhan Vishwa Shanti Mahayagya.

At the event, the Union Home Minister unveiled a commemorative coin valued at ₹100, a special ₹5 postal envelope, 108 footprints, and a portrait of Acharya Shri Vidyasagar Ji. He also laid the foundation stone for the upcoming Samadhi Smarak ‘Vidyayatan’.

Among the dignitaries present were Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, and Muni Shri Samta Sagar Ji Maharaj.

In his address, Amit Shah remarked that Acharya Shri Vidyasagar Ji Maharaj was not merely a saint or a ‘Jainacharya’; he was a visionary who heralded a new ideology and era. Born in Karnataka, Acharya Vidyasagar Ji dedicated his life to the promotion of Indian culture, languages, and overall national identity. Shah noted that it is uncommon for a religious figure to prioritize both the propagation of national identity and the interpretation of religion on a global scale.

He emphasized that Acharya Vidyasagar Ji’s life was devoted to religion, culture, and the nation. The Home Minister expressed his privilege in having met Acharya Shri Vidyasagar Ji multiple times, highlighting how the Acharya always advocated for the promotion and preservation of Indian languages and the global recognition of India’s glory and identity, preferring that the nation be referred to as ‘Bharat’ rather than ‘India.’

The Home Minister concluded by stating that Acharya Ji remained committed to a life of austerity until his final breath, guiding both Jain and non-Jain followers toward a path of salvation with his spiritual energy.

Ernakulam: A dead Russell’s viper was found on a passenger seat inside a Vande Bharat Express in Ernakulam, causing panic among passengers.

The incident took place on Friday, August 14, at around 2.30 pm. The train was scheduled to leave Ernakulam Junction for Bengaluru.

The incident came to light before the train began its journey. Vinu Varghese, who works for an insurance company in Ernakulam, had booked a ticket to travel to Coimbatore with his two-year-old child.

When he returned to his seat after visiting the restroom, he noticed the dead snake lying on the seat. He was shocked and immediately informed the Travelling Ticket Examiner (TTE) and railway staff.

The railway staff quickly responded to the situation. With the help of passengers, they removed the dead snake from the coach.

After the snake was removed, the passengers felt relieved. Vinu Varghese later filed an official complaint through the railway portal.

In his complaint, he questioned the safety and cleanliness standards on the train. He said passengers pay a significant amount for travelling on Vande Bharat trains and expected better safety measures.

Varghese said the railway staff later apologised for the incident.

The incident has also raised questions about how a snake entered the passenger compartment. Vande Bharat trains are air-conditioned and have sealed gangways and automatic doors that open only at designated stations.
