Mary Millben, an American singer, has shown her deep compassion for India in the wake of the devastating terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22. This tragic incident occurred in the beautiful Baisaran Valley, resulting in the loss of 26 lives, predominantly those of tourists, along with many others suffering injuries.

The attack has left the nation in shock, as families mourn the heartbreaking loss of innocent lives in what was meant to be a tranquil getaway.

In her heartfelt message, Millben expressed her sorrow and solidarity with the families affected by this tragedy. She took to social media to respond to a post by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who condemned the attack vehemently.

Millben stated, “My beloved #India, I share your grief during this challenging time following the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. Innocent tourists who will never return home, mothers mourning their sons, widows left behind, and children left orphaned—all of these weigh heavily on my heart. I stand in solidarity with you, along with @POTUS and @VP. PM @narendramodi and India, my prayers and support are with you now and always.”

In response to the attack, the Indian government has swiftly undertaken measures. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri outlined several decisive actions taken by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) to respond to the aftermath.

The attack has heightened tensions, prompting India to take significant diplomatic steps, including the expulsion of key Pakistani military officials. Misri announced that Defence, Naval, and Air Advisors at the Pakistani High Commission in New Delhi have been declared “Persona Non Grata” and ordered to leave the country within a week. In a reciprocal action, India has decided to withdraw its own Defence, Navy, and Air Advisors from the Indian High Commission in Islamabad, effectively rendering the positions vacant at both High Commissions.

Moreover, five support staff members linked to the Service Advisors will also be withdrawn from both High Commissions. Another significant decision taken by India involves the immediate closure of the Integrated Check Post at Attari. The government has also decided to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty “with immediate effect” until Pakistan demonstrates a credible commitment to renounce its support for cross-border terrorism.

Additionally, Pakistani nationals will no longer be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES). All previously issued SVES visas for Pakistani nationals have been canceled, and those currently in India under these visas have been given 48 hours to leave.

The Indian government plans to reduce the number of diplomatic staff at both High Commissions. By May 1, 2025, the staff at the Pakistani High Commission will be reduced from 55 to 30 as part of the ongoing response to this situation.
