AAP MLA Amanatullah Reports to Delhi Police

Published

on

Amanatullah Khan, the AAP MLA representing Okhla, appeared at the Jamia Nagar Police Station in South East Delhi on Thursday to cooperate with an ongoing investigation. This followed a notice from the Delhi Police requesting his presence.Khan faces multiple charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including Sections 221, 132, and 121(1), which relate to providing sanctuary to offenders, obstructing public servants, and conspiring against the state.

He arrived for questioning in the evening after a Delhi court granted him interim protection from arrest. Additional Sessions Judge Jitendra Singh noted that the police’s claim that Khan facilitated the escape of an accused in a separate case seemed unsubstantiated, as that individual was already under anticipatory bail when the police attempted to make an arrest. Therefore, the court ruled that no coercive measures should be taken against Khan until the next hearing, scheduled for February 24, while also mandating his participation in the investigation.

The AAP legislator was reportedly evading arrest after allegedly obstructing law enforcement officials in their duties. In a letter to Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, Khan asserted that he was not avoiding the police and was actively working in his constituency. He claimed that the FIR was based on misconstrued facts and that he had committed no crime. “This incident is a blatant case of misrepresentation meant to involve me in a situation to which I am not connected,” he stated.

Khan requested a comprehensive review of any legal actions taken against him due to the supposedly false and unfounded accusations, seeking to prevent unwarranted harassment of an elected official.

According to police reports, a Crime Branch team attempted to detain Shahbaz Khan, who was facing an attempted murder charge, in Jamia Nagar. Following his detention, Khan allegedly intervened, resulting in a confrontation between him and the officers. Amid the altercation, the suspect managed to escape while Khan and his supporters were engaged in a heated dispute with the police, prompting legal action against the Okhla MLA.

On Sunday, Samajwadi Party Rajya Sabha member Ramji Lal Suman encountered significant protests from the Karni Sena while traveling to Bulandshahr. Demonstrators waved black flags and hurled tires at his convoy, demanding an apology for his remarks in the Rajya Sabha, where he referred to Raja Rana Sanga as a traitor for inviting Babur to battle against Ibrahim Lodhi.

Due to the protests, several vehicles in the MP’s convoy collided while trying to navigate through the crowd, resulting in injuries to some individuals aboard.

Ramji Lal Suman mentioned that, following instructions from SP National President Akhilesh Yadav, the delegation was en route to Bulandshahr to gather firsthand accounts of atrocities against Dalits in Sungera village, which reportedly involved four Dalits being run over by a vehicle on April 21. The police have since arrested four suspects and seized the involved vehicle.

Gyanendra Singh Chauhan, President of the All India Karni Sena, stated that the protest was organized upon learning of Suman’s convoy passing through Aligarh. Activists from the Karni Sena and the Kshatriya community chanted slogans against the MP and engaged in disruptive actions at Khereshwar intersection under the Lodha police station around 2 p.m., leading to further collisions within the convoy.

When Suman’s convoy reached the Gabhana toll plaza, local police and administrative officials from Bulandshahr and Aligarh intercepted them, halting their progress. A heated exchange occurred between SP supporters and the authorities, with Suman and his team expressing frustration at the police. They also alleged that stones were thrown at the convoy.

Ultimately, the police compelled Ramji Lal Suman to return to Aligarh, although a select group of SP workers was permitted to continue to Bulandshahr.
