52 Bangladeshi Infiltrators Fraudulently Obtain Birth Certificates in Maharashtra, Face Legal Action

Published

on

Senior BJP leader and former MP Kirit Somaiya revealed on Thursday that a significant scam involving fake birth certificates for Bangladeshi nationals is underway in Maharashtra. He alleged that 52 individuals from Bangladesh have unlawfully secured birth certificates in the state.

Somaiya stated that six FIRs have been filed against these individuals.

The accused were reportedly residing in various towns across Akola district, having presented false documentation to obtain their birth certificates.

The FIRs have been lodged at several police stations, including Akot, Telhara, Barshitakali, Ramdaspeth (Akola city), Murtijapur, and Patur, under multiple sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), including sections 3(5), 229, 236, 237, 318(4), 336(3), and 340(2).

Somaiya commented, “This is a serious case of a Bangladeshi birth certificate scam. We have filed six FIRs against 52 infiltrators from Bangladesh.” He provided a detailed list of these individuals, highlighting that it includes around 12 women who also obtained birth certificates through fraudulent means.

Earlier this month, Somaiya had uncovered a large-scale illegal birth certificate racket that has enabled thousands of Bangladeshis and Rohingyas to acquire Indian citizenship unlawfully. He mentioned that the scheme originated in Amravati, with 4,500 fake registrations identified thus far. According to Somaiya, this is a widespread issue, with over 130,000 counterfeit birth certificates issued across the state.

He has called for the immediate cancellation of these certificates, the arrest of corrupt officials, and a complete revamp of the birth registration process. Additionally, he has submitted a comprehensive 478-page report of evidence to the police.

Somaiya emphasized, “We are witnessing the most dangerous infiltration scam in Maharashtra’s history.”

On Tuesday, Minister of State for Home Yogesh Kadam informed the Maharashtra Assembly that the government has instructed developers and contractors in Mumbai to provide an undertaking confirming they do not hire Bangladeshis for their projects. If any Bangladeshi workers are found on-site, they are required to notify the police.

In January, the Maharashtra government established a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the issuance of birth and death certificates on “delayed” applications amidst complaints regarding illegal immigrants from Bangladesh residing in various areas of the state.
