How to Make Delicious Shahi Paneer at Home
Shahi Paneer is a popular North Indian dish known for its rich, creamy, and flavorful gravy. It is often served in restaurants but can also be made easily at home with simple ingredients.
Step-by-Step Preparation:
1. Prepare the Base Ingredients:
Chop onions, tomatoes, ginger, and green chilies. Soak cashews or almonds in warm water to soften them. To keep the paneer cubes soft, you can immerse them in warm water for a few minutes.
2. Cook the Base Mixture:
Heat oil or butter in a pan. Add whole spices such as cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, and cumin seeds. Sauté until fragrant. Then add onions, ginger, garlic, and green chilies. Cook until the onions turn soft or light brown. Add the chopped tomatoes and soaked nuts. Cook until the mixture becomes soft and mushy.
3. Cool and Blend:
Allow the mixture to cool completely. Transfer it to a blender and make a smooth paste. For a silky restaurant-style texture, strain the paste through a fine sieve.
4.Prepare the Gravy:
In another pan, heat butter or oil. Add powdered spices like turmeric, red chili powder, coriander powder, and cumin powder. Sauté for a few seconds on low heat. Add the blended paste and mix well. Cook until the oil separates from the sides of the pan.
5.Simmer and Finish:
Add water or milk to adjust the consistency of the gravy. Bring it to a gentle boil. Stir in fresh cream, crushed kasoori methi, and salt. Add the paneer cubes and simmer on low heat for about two to five minutes until the paneer absorbs the flavors.
6.Garnish and Serve:
Turn off the heat and add garam masala. You can also add a few drops of kewra or rose water for a royal aroma. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves or a swirl of cream.
Shahi Paneer is now ready to serve. It goes perfectly with naan, roti, or steamed rice. This simple recipe brings a touch of royal flavor to your dining table.
